A Lesson in Romance

Something magical happened while taking portraits of this beautiful couple at the Bloedel Reserve.

Halfway through the session, when the conditions were just right, he proposed!

I can’t imagine how smooth he had to have been to get her to the engagement photos session without letting her know that it was going to be an engagement photos session!  She was absolutely dumfounded, and excitedly said, “of course I’ll marry you!” As I snapped photos furiously from the other side of the lake at 200mm.

They were in no rush to leave, and neither was I, so we continued the photo shoot for over an hour as she grinned from ear to ear, sporting a heavy diamond that he had custom made.  Gentlemen, I think that we all could take a lesson or two in romance, here.

Congratulations, you two!

Blue skies in Rainville

This year Seattle has certainly been living up to its reputation of rain. Thankfully, the clouds broke for a day to take some family photos on the beach.

Family Portraits on the Beach

This cute family wanted to do some outdoor portraits just in time for Mother’s Day, and we headed out to the beach for the session.  It was a crazy and fun shoot with so many boys running around!  Here are just a few shots:

Fast portrait session

Here are a few photos from a quick portrait session of 15-20 minutes. Not every photo shoot needs to be a huge ordeal; it was fun to just walk around town and chat while taking photos.

“The Weekend Forecast” band photos

Jill and I have been having a blast with this latest music video shoot for “The Weekend Forecast,” a band we came in contact with through lead singer Benji Schwimmer.  We spent two days outdoors in severe Utah weather to get the footage we needed for the video.

While shooting, there were moments when stills told the story better than video, so I grabbed a few shots with the 7D and then resumed filming.  The music video is viewable here.

Alison and Family

Alison turned 6 months old, so we were invited over to take some photos of this beautiful little girl and her family. They were so much fun to work with!

Haiti Relief Show at Neumo’s

Sol, Common Market, Khingz, DJ Pryme, Dyno Jamz, Flying Sneakers and The Physics gave an excellent show at Neumo’s last night. The show sold out early, and 100% of the proceeds went to Doctors Without Borders. The music was great, the crowd excellent, and the cause noble. A lot of love was shared for family and friends of performers who have died or who are suffering right now in Haiti.

I was blessed enough to be backstage and onstage as the photographer for the event, and had an amazing experience capturing the show through images. Here’s a link to the full set of galleries, which you can also access by clicking on any picture below.

Update: Here’s UW TV’s piece that they did on the benefit show, featuring the talented SOL who put the show together.

Working Woman

Malloy kids

The Malloy kids are obviously some pretty cute kids. They are so high-energy that getting them all in front of the camera at the same time was challenging enough that we had two photo sessions with them, just to make sure we got enough coverage. The studio and the outdoor shots are aesthetically different enough that the complete collection has a lot of variety.

A full gallery of their pictures is available by clicking on any of the photos below.
